Empty House

Whitney's ability to drive herself to evening activities is both a blessing and a curse. Last night there were basketball games followed by dance class, so she was gone all evening. It is nice that we are no longer "Mom and Dad's Taxi Service".

The downside is what we knew all along.....if not for driving her around, we don't have any idea of what to do with our time.

I know that sounds great to some of you who are over-extended and need a break, but we are not one of those couples. I work alone at home and have more hours alone than anyone not named "The Unabomber" should have as it is. We stopped at one kid, so it is not like our house was constant chaos as it was. There is no alternative for something to do if she is self sufficient. We have no real outside interests or large circle of friends that have us doing things. It is like the "Empty Nest Syndrome" is starting early.

Apparently, we need to get a life. Anyone have a spare one we can borrow?

Oh you'll think of something to do. In the meantime give yourselves a big pat on the back for raising a responsible, reliable young lady that you can trust to take the car for the evening, expecially this soon after getting her license. You did a great job!

Yes we both wrote on this subject so obviously it is an important moment in our lives. And while we can finish each other's sentences, I agree with Dan that we do not share a brain.

Thank you for the kind words Mom. You know a little about raising an amazing kid! Of course, you also raised me. :-)

I dread the day, really. Obviously, I spend a fair amount of time in the car driving kids here and there, but it's also a great opportunity to talk with the kids, one on one, or at least semi one-on-one. I will miss that connection once they start driving themselves.

Awww,,,, hang in there Danny. If nothing else and you get to bored you can take up lessons at Whittney's dance school. LOL,Im sure you would look great in a leotard - she would love that wouldn't she. No, seriously though-this would be a good time to do something you always wanted to do and havn't had the time or chance to do. For me, it's dance lessons, LOL, just feel I'm to old for it now. Maybe take a cooking class or something. But I agree with Aunt Jackie, you raised a wonderful daughter who is doing great. I am proud of her and hope that I will do as well with my kids as you and Tracy have done with Whittney..... I also think my other cousins and Brother are great parents to. Must run in the family genes....LOL
